SYDNEY: 3 FOODIE THINGS TO DO WHILE YOU’RE WAITING FOR NOMA TO OPEN

Sydney, we might be tucked down in some far flung outlying part of the globe but that doesn’t stop us from working overtime to play with the big boys when it comes to food, fashion, culture, In N Out Burger. In fact, you could say that distance is what drives us to stay on top of the trends.

Whatever our cultural complex is, we’ve got another excuse to rejoice in our collective pulling power with the news that chef René Redzepi of NOMA will be bringing his brand of New Nordic flavours to Sydney for 10 weeks at the end of January 2016.

Yes it’s true, four-time ‘Best Restaurant in the World’ winner is coming to Australia and it’s set to be the biggest thing to hit our shores since someone put a shrimp on a barbie.

Part of a collaboration with Tourism Australia and Lendlease construction, Redzepi will be reinterpreting his signature style for the locals, incorporating local producers and flavours such as bunya nuts form South Australia and even eel from the Hawkesbury River.

“I have always been attracted to the incredible diversity you find in Australia’s landscapes and ingredients, because they are like no other place I’ve seen before,” said Redzepi. “Australia combines strong influences from its Indigenous people with new communities from around the world. When you mix it all together, the result is something truly inspiring. It really is the perfect place to come and learn.”

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday and if the lines outside don’t already give it away, you’ll find Noma sitting pretty on the water on the Wulugul Walk at Lendleases Barangaroo development on CBD fringe from January 2015.
