The Last Word
68 Huguenot Street, Franschhoek, South Africa
+27 21 7946561

We’ve mentioned before how South Africa feels like 5 countries in one and you could easily mistake Francschhoek for the France’s Rhine valley. Even the Oliphants Hoek Mountains that surround the town could be mistaken for the dramatic Vosges peaks.

The main street is lined with romantic Oak Trees (imported for wine barreling) and as the gourmet campital of SA, you don’t have to walk far to find a world class restaurant or a great cup of coffee.

The Last Word on Huguenot Road is in arms length of all of this but is separated by a gated courtyard. It feels more like a guest house but with all the added perks of a luxury hotel (Hamptons inspired pool, private garden courtyards off every room, giant walk in bath room with his and hers sinks).

The service is second to none, to the point where the concierge will organise freshly flamed mini Creme Brulees to be by your bed after dinner. Just because.

The French Connection Bistro

We can still taste the slow roasted duck. The French Connection oozes a charming village atmosphere and is totally unpretentious despite being highly awarded. Ask for a table by the fireplace and sink in for long wine fuelled session.

Haute Cabriere Tasting Room

Franschhoek Pass, Francshhoek

You’ll find Haute Cabriere just a short bike ride past Francshhoek town. It’s a pleasant ride that’s even, slightly, more lovely on the way down after you’ve enjoyed the Premium Wine Tasting. It’s about $10 per person and is a stunning way to watch the sun go down over the wines after a days touring.
