On a dream list of things we want this year we’d say a return to less partisan politics and a clean bill of health for the entire planet up the top of the list—but as the Rolling Stones once said, “you can’t always get what you need, but if you try sometimes, you get what you want…”

Okay, it was actually the other way around but wants versus needs are all blurred a little bit at the moment when it comes to creating whatever your sense of normal looks like.

All I’m saying is this stuff might not save the world but if you’re the kind of person that revels in self-care rituals then it may just save your sanity.

So with no further adieu here are some of my favourites to act as a fluffy foil to your news break.

NARS Cool Crush Eyeshadow Palette

You know when you see a new palette and you’re like “this is definitely my dream palette” only to buy it and realise the colours aren’t really user-friendly for real-life? THIS one is MY ACTUAL dream palette.

If experience has taught me one thing, it’s that you really only need one or two pretty ‘pop’ shades and a cluster of ultra-blendable neutral shades to last you forever. Invest in this beauty and not only will it work hard on your eyes, but it’ll also pretty up your bathroom.

Look at it. Behold it!

Byredo Cotton Poplin Candle

Safe to say it’s the 30-year-old in me thrives on the scent of clean, fresh linens. (I’m actually 35. Yikes)

Rae Morris Jishaku Deluxe Kabuki Brush

Truthbomb time. I only buy Rae Morris brushes whenever I have a big argument with my husband because he would never understand the luxury and feeling of ultra-ultra-soft makeup tools.

File these under ‘wants’ over ‘needs’ and definitely when someone seriously needs to make something up to you.

Diptyque Do Son EDT

Woah nelly, his is the APEX fragrance for flower lovers. African orange flower, rose, tuberose, musk. It makes my eyes flicker with pleasure a little bit every time I spray it.

I have bought about 3 of these in my lifetime and I rarely do that with a perfume.

Westman Atelier Lit Up Highlighter Stick

There are a LOT of highlighters out there but this one not only has handy handbag appeal but it’s subtle enough to keep on hand for re-application. Then again, we may not be going anywhere for a while so I recommend keeping it on your desk for when you need to bling out for those Zoom meetings.

Bumble & Bumble Save The Day Daytime Protective Repair Fluid

The power of this lies in its function > presentation. Inside this bottle IS THE MOST POWERFUL injection of hydration for damaged hair I have ever used in my life.

As a woman who has been colour-treating her hair since those heady ‘Feria’ days in high school, I know dryness — and now, thanks to this —I know what Kendall Jenner’s hair feels like.

Drunk Elephant Slaai Cleanser

Like highlighter, there are plenty of cleansers out there. But the magic of this oil isn’t only that it transforms into a creamy milk upon application, it’s that it’s so moisturising that it practically does half the work of your night cream by the time you’re through washing your face. It’s not a house but still handy little investment.

Okay, hope that provided a nice little jolt of escapism for a moment. As always sending you guys and everyone in your world love.

Stay safe, stay sane.
