Ee-Usk doesn’t mince words when it comes to telling it like it is. For those not immediately familiar with Gaelic, the restaurant is named after the traditional Scottish term for ‘fish’ and we’d say it’s practically a sin for you to sit down here and order anything but.
Not that there isn’t more to the story (there’s a single rib eye on the menu for those that dare to opt for the turf from the surf, we know you’re out there) but you know that they say, ‘when in Rome or Scotland’s seafood capital… eat like the locals do’ and the Ee-Usk team takes their North Atlantic Ocean-to-table rep particularly seriously and have won multiple awards for it in the process.
The restaurant sits at the North end of Oban harbour, with a team of battle-worn Deadliest Catch-esque vessels docked opposite. You’ll even spot salty crew members swapping stories and unloading the days trawl while you tuck into your creamy salmon mousse.
But Ee-usk’s crustaceans are the showstoppers. For those uninitiated with langoustines (a.k.a mini-Lobsters), we guarantee there’s much joy to be had digging for treasure within their surprisingly resilient shells.
What is it about Scotland that breeds everything just that little bit more robust than anywhere else? Whatever it is, it’s definitely in the water around Oban.
[Special thanks to our Scottish Instagram followers @holliclifford3 and @linksrobbie for their suggestions on where to eat in while in town. We LOVE hearing from a our followers, keeping those tips coming!]
Highly recommended
A table by the window. If you have to beg, do it, because the views are worth it whether you’re watching the fog roll in or you’ve got sunlight streaming in. It helps that in summer the sun doesn’t finish it’s descent until well past 10pm.
